Flood Plain Maps Brazos County
March 31st, 2010 Categories: Real Estate News
Sometimes, when a hurricane or tropical storm is big enough, some cities and areas have to evacuate their homes and find shelter elsewhere. Evacuation is an intimidating task, having to pack everything necessary for the family to survive in such a short amount of time is never easy.
Luckily, Bryan/College Station is far enough inland that storms and hurricanes don’t usually force us to evacuate. However, Bryan/College Station is in a perfect position to accommodate people who do have to evacuate– it’s far enough inland, making it safe, but it’s also not too Read the rest of this entry »

College Station Tree Preservation Ordinance – What Do YOU Think?
March 7th, 2009 Categories: Real Estate News
March 26, 2009 the College Station City Council is having a workshop to review the current draft of the College Station Tree Preservation Ordinance.

Are you ready for the City of College Station to tell you what trees you can cut down?
The City of College Station City’s Tree Preservation Ordinance Purpose states:
- The purpose and intent of this Section is to promote the preservation of trees and tree stands during construction to facilitate site design and construction that contributes to the long-term viability of existing trees and to develop a process to control the removal of trees. It is further the purpose of this ordinance to prevent the untimely and indiscriminate removal or destruction of trees, maintain and enhance a positive image of the City and to protect trees and promote the ecological, environmental and aesthetic values of the City.
Are you ready to have to get a permit to cut a tree? Are you ready to APPLY for a permit to grade your property if there is a tree larger than 8 inches in diameter?
If you are outside the City Limits think you don’t have to worry? Sorry – right now the draft says -
- Tree protection requirements will apply to all property in the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) in conjunction with development and subdivision plats.
Yes, there are some exemptions. Yes this is only a draft. BUT, will this become law for the City of College Station? Do we need more regulation to limit real estate development? Do we need more governmental interference?
Remember in 2009 the College Station City Council has landlords registering their properties if they are renting – with a fee of course. This College Station Tree Ordinance is just ONE MORE…..

The Great Takeover by the Federal Government!!
September 7th, 2008 Categories: Real Estate News

The Federal Government announced today that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae will be taken over by the Federal Government. The Fed will take charge of $5 Trillion in loans. The Federal Housing Finance Agency will oversee the day to day workings of the two loan giants until they are better able to run themselves.

Also, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, James Lockhart, anounces the “conservatorship (click)” between the two companies. Both companies will be open for business on Monday according to CNN, but be aware that major restructuring will have taken place and rules and regulation have changed.
How will this affect the College Station home sales? What do buyers have to look forward to with the changes? Will this affect my current mortgage if I have a loan with Fannie or Freddie?
Contact me with any questions or comments and I will respond to any questions you might have.
