2010 Brazos County Property Taxes Update

What are the 2010 Property taxes for Brazos County?

Saving Energy in Your Bryan College Station Home

The average home in Bryan-College Station today consumes twice the amount of power and twice as many electrical outlets as a home in the 1960’s or 1970’s. Weather changes often have a significant impact on the increase in utility costs and regardless of what one may think there are ways to keep those bills steady year round. So….
- Check air conditioning system to make sure it is at the peak operating condition.
- Replace air filters often (at least once a month).
- Keep thermostat no higher than 78 degrees during summer months and 68 degrees during winter months.
- Install a thermostat that automatically adjusts temperature in order to save.
- During the summer be sure to do heat producing tasks (cooking, laundry, dish washing) in the early mornings or late evenings.
- Use microwave over oven if possible.
- Reset water heater between 110 and 120 degrees.
- Keep blinds and shades closed to reduce heat gain in summer and in summer open them to receive direct sunlight and heat.

College Station, Tx Is Ranked #4 in the BEST Place for Military Retirees

Many retired military are finding their way to College Station zip codes. The City of College Station is ranked fourth among cities nationally and second in medium sized metropolitan areas(175,000-500,000 pop) in accordance with USAAs and military.com’s list of “Best Places for Military Retirement”. Why another list? The new list (started on December 6, 2010) helps retirees to utilize the retirement benefits to their greatest benefit in places that offer a high quality of life.
There are many reasons why Bryan College Station, Tx was chosen. One reason why BCS is ranked so high is taxes! Texas has no income tax on Federal Pensions. City of College Station Tx Christmas Decorations Missing?

The City of College Station has many yards with beautiful holiday decorations! Unfortunately many of the decorations such as inflatable’s, lighted figurines and plywood cut outs have become targets for thieves. In light of this the College Station Police Department has given some suggestions for residents with outside holiday décor.

Super Principal at Forest Ridge goes the extra mile and kisses a pig!

We are so lucky to live in a town like College Station where the educators and principals go the extra mile to pump up the student body.
Every year, the PTO at Forest Ridge Elementary in College Station puts on the annual Fall Festival fundraiser. The fesitval is full of games, activities, food, and amazing live and silent auction items. This year, the theme of the festival was “Truckin’ to the County Fair”. The Country fair theme created some buzz with old fashion activities such as a pie contest, pig races, and a kiss a pig contest between Principal, Terresa Katt, and Assistant Principal, Jason Hawkins. For weeks, the students filled the jars with money to see which principal would have to kiss Herman the pig!
Little did the children know what they were in for when they voted Mrs. Katt as the champion and the one to kiss Herman! Terresa was an amazing sport and really excited the kids after their fall sing along when she laid one on Herman. By the way, she doesn’t normally dress that way…the theme of the sing along was Rock N Roll over the years 50′s-80′s, and she was obviously dressed 80′s!
Education is so important, and nothing makes children get more pumped up about learning, than teachers and Principals who go above and beyond their duties to make learning fun! Mrs. Katt is one in a million when it comes to putting her students first. Whether it is judging the pie contest, dressing up like an 80′s gal, reading at Barnes and Noble, or kissing a PIG, she’s up for the challenge. College Station ISD and Forest Ridge Elementary are very lucky to have such a dedicated Principal!

2010 Lights on in Downtown Bryan

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas especially in Downtown Bryan! My family and I went to the annual “Lights on in Downtown Bryan” where all the lights in the entire downtown area were lit simultaneously!
There were many different musical groups and choir performances, a visit by Kaboom, and a countdown to the big flip of the switch! Many businesses were serving hot chocolate and the businesses in downtown were decorated for the season! It is so nice to live in and sell homes in a community that still holds old fashion celebrations like “Lights on”! There will be a wonderful First Friday’s this Friday complete with carriage rides, musical entertainment, and other special events!
